About Us
The Chicago Suburban Chapter of CSTA (or "ChiSub") was established several years ago to bring as many professionals together as possible from anywhere in the Chicagoland area who hold an interest in K-12 Computer Science Education. Between September and May, we meet on a monthly basis, generally the third Wednesday of the month, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Meeting locations vary based on volunteer hosts, with the intent to hold meetings across the larger metropolitan area.
To be a member of ChiSub CSTA is to be a member of an inclusive, supportive, sharing, and lively community. New members are considered our VIP's. We have many members who have attended our in-person meetings regularly for several years. It is common for other members to attend a few in-person meetings per year, and others may only be attend one meeting per year. All are welcome with open arms.
Professional development, the exchange of resources, discussion of pedagogy, and frequent needling of the Chapter President's tendency to write verbose emails are all common recurring themes at our meetings. We always seek member input on topics of interest, and the leadership of the Chapter always seeks to maximize the member experience through open feedback. We know your time is valuable, and we aim to maximize your bang-for-buck in your allocating a Wednesday night toward attending our meetings. Though not all of our members are Computer Science teachers, we seek to the fullest extent possible for every attendee to our meetings to walk away with something they can use right away in the classroom or wherever else they may work.
Regardless of whether you live or teach in the Chicago Suburban area, far northwest Illinois, southeast Illinois, or anywhere in-between, if joining a community that is passionate about K-12 Computer Science education is of interest to you, please join us.
