The Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) is a membership organization that supports and promotes the teaching of computer science, providing opportunities for K–12 teachers and their students to better understand computer science and to more successfully prepare themselves to teach and learn. There are currently 75+ local CSTA chapters across the United States and Canada. CSTA is looking for an experienced, customer service-oriented Chapter Relations Manager to support these chapters with leadership and quality programming for chapter members.


In collaboration with the Director of Education, this position will be responsible for the growth, success, and management of CSTA’s chapter relations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all chapters; provides comprehensive support to chapter leaders and assists them with establishing and maintaining effective chapter operations and activities.

  • Develops activities and initiatives to develop existing chapters and establish new chapters; analyzes current recruitment and engagement strategies; implements new chapter programs and services. 

  • Plans and executes both in-person and virtual trainings for chapter leaders, in collaboration with the Chapter Leaders Committee, including the annual Chapter Leadership Summit held in conjunction with the CSTA Annual Conference.

  • Develops and maintains chapter resources and marketing materials, including toolkits, newsletters, webinars, meeting agendas, brochures, surveys, and website templates.

  • Tracks the success and overall performance of all chapter activities.

  • Administers scholarship and grant programs for chapter leaders and members.

  • Supports grant-funded projects related to chapter growth and relations.

  • Assists chapter leaders in utilizing the member database.

  • Assists chapters with general tax status information, incorporation, and group exemption process; provides documentation to chapters as necessary.

  • Ensures chapters are covered by insurance; files yearly documentation.

  • Represents CSTA at external events with a focus on promoting brand awareness and chapter recruitment.

  • Ensures work and information are complete and accurate; carefully prepares for meetings and presentations; follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Experience & Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills; develops, maintains, and strengthens partnerships with others inside or outside the organization.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing; comfortable speaking to small groups and presenting information.

  • Presents a cheerful, positive manner with both customers and colleagues.

  • Works efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

  • Functions effectively when under pressure and working with tight timelines.

  • Develops, sponsors, or supports the introduction of new and improved methods, products, procedures, or technologies.

  • Strong administrative and data management skills; experience in managing and maintaining databases.

  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google Docs.

  • 3+ years experience in a chapter management, community relations, project management, or similar role.

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% time.



  • Experience with a national membership organization.

  • Experience providing professional development to K-12 computer science teachers.

  • Experience or knowledge of incorporation and group exemption status.
