Welcome to the CSTA Volunteer Spotlight series, where we celebrate the incredible individuals who dedicate their time and passion to making a difference in the CSTA community. Join us in recognizing the extraordinary work of Sherri as a member of the CSAccess Working Group.

What inspired you to volunteer your time with CSTA? How has this experience impacted you?

The Computer Access Group provides a platform to share information and other resources for educators and their students who need certain accommodations to excel in the world of CS! The dedication of this group is truly inspiring and I am so glad to be a part of it.

How long have you been involved with CSTA, and what motivated you to join?

I have been involved since I entered the classroom in 2008. I was motivated to join to be a part of a national organization that focuses on computer science opportunities for students.

Can you share any memorable experiences or highlights from your involvement with CSTA?

The information that has been shared with me has been incredible. One site or activity in particular is the Bebras Challenge. The international computational thinking challenge has provided my students with an opportunity to grow and to learn over the years. The challenge definitely captures the students’ attention and makes them think!

How has CSTA impacted your teaching career and professional development?

The networking opportunities continue to be invaluable to me. The world of CS Education is very caring and happy to share.

In what ways do you see CSTA shaping the future of computer science education?

With the update of the CS Standards, many states (educators and students) will use them as a guide for student success. CSTA brings to the forefront key issues and initiatives for awareness and action.

Are there any specific initiatives or projects within CSTA that you’ve been particularly passionate about?

Our CS Access Group. As previously mentioned, the individuals are compassionate, knowledgeable, and inspiring.

What does the future of CSTA look like?

It’s hard to say what the future will look like, but technology and computational thinking will continue to impact all individuals. There is so much opportunity for careers in CS and I see CSTA continuing to be a partner is these opportunities.
