CSTA is thrilled to announce Bryan “BT” Twarek will join the organization as Director of Education at the end of this school year. A long-time CSTA member and recent District Representative on CSTA’s Board of Directors, Twarek brings an intimate knowledge of CSTA to this newly created role.
In this role, Twarek will focus on how CSTA defines and promotes high-quality teaching and the learning of computer science through our standards, conference, chapters and in direct-to-member professional learning opportunities.
“As a board member and district leader, BT has built amazing programs to support computer science teacher communities,” said CSTA Executive Director Jake Baskin. “We’re lucky to have him joining our team to continue this work with the larger computer science education community.”

Twarek joins CSTA from the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) where he had the privilege of directing the expansion of computer science education in San Francisco’s public schools. During his tenure with SFUSD, he oversaw policy, curriculum development, and teacher training and support.

In addition, Twarek served as a lead writer for the K-12 CS Framework and CSTA K-12 CS Standards, co-chaired the development of California’s CS standards, contributed to California’s CS strategic implementation plan and is a member of the CSTA/ISTE CS educator standards writing team.
