Project-based learning (PBL) classes in computer science and engineering create wonderful opportunities for students to build vital 21st-century skills. However, they often miss out dramatically by focusing on repeated, trivial, instructor-created projects! This session will show some simple ways that any teacher can find user-centered (i.e., real-world) problems in their community and create project-based curricula that bring critical skills to bear on solving those problems.
